Las Vegas, Nevada is a vibrant city that draws in millions of tourists each year. From the iconic Las Vegas Strip to the world-class entertainment and gaming venues, the city has become a major tourist hub. But what many people don't realize is that the tourism industry has a huge influence on politics in Las Vegas. Kevin Bagger, Vice President of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Research Center, has highlighted the importance of tourism to the local economy.
He points out that visits and expenses at resorts create jobs for food and beverage suppliers, bedding companies, and other vendors. The LVCVA's survey found that 90% of respondents said their trip met or exceeded their expectations, and 9 out of 10 said they would recommend Las Vegas to others. Senator Rosen has been working with leaders from MGM Resorts International, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the LVCVA, and the Las Vegas Raiders to drive growth in the travel and tourism sector. The Los Vegas Raiders Community Benefits Agreement ensures that more than 60% of employees operating the stadium are women and members of minorities on event days.
Last year, the LVCVA organized 14 new trade shows in Las Vegas. The Allegiant Stadium survey revealed that 89% of attendees said their event was the main reason they visited Las Vegas. Sandra Douglass Morgan, President of the Los Vegas Raiders, discussed the attendance and economic impact of the Las Vegas Raiders and Allegiant Stadium. She noted that these events generate significant revenues for the state. As consumer demographics shift towards a younger generation, Gordon believes that interest and spending on special events, concerts, and sports will continue to rise. He also expects that many changes related to the pandemic implemented in Las Vegas resorts – such as check-in kiosks, cashless discounts, and mobile room keys – will remain in place due to their cost-effectiveness and efficiency. The tourism industry has a major impact on politics in Las Vegas.
From creating jobs for local vendors to generating revenue for the state through special events and concerts, tourism is an essential part of the city's economy. Senator Rosen has been working with leaders from MGM Resorts International, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the LVCVA, and the Las Vegas Raiders to ensure that tourism continues to be a driving force in Las Vegas politics.
